More information about Fly365 and learning to fly with us.
Fly365 operates from the old RAF Wickenby Control Tower. Enjoy a friendly chat over a cup of coffee in front of a real fire. In short, we offer good hospitality in comfortable surroundings rather than the usual cold portakabin of many other flying schools. The club organises events throughout the year. There is a bar and the Plane Foods Bistro and a children's play area outside. Members and their guests are always welcome. Some call in for coffee even when they are not flying.
Here is a link to a Fly365 video which should give you some idea of who we are and how we do things at Fly365.
Further on down this page is the Wickenby Landing Plate and some more pictures of the airfield and inside the control tower.
We offer flights and training in Flex Wing Microlights, Fixed Wing Microlights, Cessna 152 Light Aircraft, a de Havilland DHC-1 Chipmunk, ideal for tailwheel training and even a Zlin side-by-side Aerobatic Aircraft.
Our services also include: Trial Lesson Gift Vouchers, reservations using our Online Booking system, GFTs (General Flight Tests), Aircraft Shares, Annual Permits/Servicing, Certificates of Experience and Test, Flight Training, Microlight Sales, Microlight Servicing, and Rotax Engine Servicing.
Assuming you want to go ahead and learn to fly, you can do this at your own pace - from one hour per month to a full intensive course. Good accommodation is available locally, if required. All training is completed on two-seat, dual-control aircraft, with an instructor, using radio intercom and training to the appropriate official syllabus. Training on your own aircraft, if suitable, is a possibility.
Although the British winter brings cooler weather, sometimes high winds, fewer flying days but fewer thermals and some winter days can produce the best flying conditions ever. Flying on one of those crisp, clear, winter days over a snowscape, in itself, makes learning to fly more than worthwhile. The school runs thoughout the year, so if you are thinking of becoming a pilot, don't be put off by the thought of winter.
Once you have gained your licence we can help you stay in the air for minimal outlay. Fly365 gives you access to top of the range aircraft at an affordable level and we also offer lease shares in various aircraft. Please contact us for details.
After approximately 12-18 hours training, depending on commitment and aptitude, you will be flying solo. A good rule of thumb (and any flying experience will sorten this rule) is that it will take around half your age in hours to reach the solo point. To obtain your full unrestricted licence you are required to fly a minimum total of 25 hours under training, of which 10 must be solo. Once you have passed ground exams in Air Law, Aeroplanes Technical, Navigation, Meteorology, and Human Performance and Limitations, you are then free to fly anywhere in the British Isles and Europe subject to normal air rules. All exams are of the multiple choice type - and exams can be taken at the Fly365 flying school. We also run a ground school in these subjects, to help those of you who have problems finding study time at home.
Before flying solo, you must be in possession of a current medical certificate from your GP (General Practitioner). However, a medical is not required to fly when under dual instruction.
At Fly365 we use the most advanced microlights available, both fixed and flexwing, as well as other light aircraft.
We use the Thruster T600N Sprint fixed wing microlight, which is top of the current Thruster range. The Thruster has been held in high regard by training schools for its responsive handling, reliability and superb engineering.
We also use the Pegasus Quantum 912 flexwing, with 4-stroke engine. This is the type of aircraft chosen by Brian Milton for his around the world flight and also by Rory Jeffs (some of Rory's conversion from helicopters to the flexwing was completed by Malcolm) for his fund raising flight from Calcutta to London. He completed his flight in style at the 1998 Farnborough International Air Show.
Our other aircraft include the Cessna 152, Chipmunk and ZLIN Z 242.
